Scholarship Awards

Mbieri Nwaotuoke USA is looking forward to awarding more scholarships to Mbieri sons and daughters both here and in Nigeria as funds become available. About 90% of all Elementary and Secondary Schools in Mbieri have been badly damaged by neglect and lack of interest on the part of the government and people.

This Organization through the good will of our friends and other donors will soon embark on a total rehabilitation of these schools.

This one-time scholarship award for academic excellence was established in honor of the Late His Royal Highness Eze Sylvester U. Achuko, the paramount chief "Ezeozuzuoha II of Mbieri".

This award was in recognition of his life and legacy to the people of Mbieri. The scholarship award covered direct educational program expenses towards the completion of an qualified academic program in an approved university in Nigeria.

This 'Eze S. U. Achuko Memorial Scholarship Award' was established with clearly articulated objectives, criteria, and guidelines for implementation. The five-member Scholarship Board members, who are university professors and community leaders of Mbieri descent, worked selflessly and diligently to ensure the success of this program.

Two recipients of this award have now completed their four-year academic studies at Abia State University and the University of Nigeria, Alvan Campus, both institutions are in Nigeria.

The next educational project will focus on the establishment of Mbieri Nwaotuoke Educational Fund for the purpose of implementing two new university scholarship awards every year.

Other project plans include the systematic renovation of the dilapidated infrastructural facilities of the educational institutions in Mbieri. Additional details will be provided on the web page of the Mbieri Education Project Implementation Committee. Implementation of this project will commence as soon as funding becomes available.

water Project

An Element that Sustains All Life: Water

The Water Project Implementation Committee will deal with the implementation of this project. Based on the feasibility studies, phases of this project will involve the purchase of submersible well pumps, as well as the purification and distribution of the water supply.

Significant amount of funds must be raised to ensure the completion of this project.

Mbieri is the second largest community in Imo State of Nigeria but at the moment, there is no pipe bone water in Mbieri. The need for good drinking water in Mbieri cannot be over emphasized. More Mbierians die of water borne diseases today than any other disease. Provision of good drinking water will save so many lives in Mbieri especially children who are dying in greater numbers from drinking unsanitary water. Opening of boreholes in our various homes in Mbieri is not a solution to our water problems. These individual bore holes may in the long run create more problems and subject our community to more unsanitary conditions as these bore holes become rusty and unmanageable due to financial burden on the individuals who dug these private well or bore holes. What Mbieri needs at this technological age is a more centralized and well managed water wells for its economic and environmental survival.

The only standing Water Tank in Mbieri is over 50 years old and every effort made in the last ten years to resurrect this half century albatross has prove costly in terms of funds and wasted man hour.

Mbieri Nwaotuoke USA has embarked on a more cost effective way of bringing water to all the 28 villages in Mbieri. The project calls for sighting of wells in five zonal areas in Mbieri. This organization has established the necessary structure in Mbieri to ensure the success and sustainability of these water wells. These projects will require financial assistance from all Mbierians and our friends and well-wishers. We will also be soliciting funds from world agencies and individuals of goodwill to assist Mbirians in this task.

The first phase of this project will commence as soon as funds become available.

Healthcare project

Good Health Promotion and Illness Prevention Center

The Healthcare Project Implementation Committee proposes the establishment of a “Good Health Promotion and Illness Prevention Center”.

This health center will focus on the basic healthcare needs of Mbieri people such as health check, first aid, health education and immunization. The group also proposes the employment of healthcare providers and aides, such as nurses and ward maids. A centralized building/facility will be needed for better dispensation of healthcare services. Other supply and equipment needs include power generators, refrigerators, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, and reference materials.

The Mbieri General hospital was built many years ago for the purpose of providing health care for the citizens or Mbieri. Over the years, this hospital was completely neglected and as result, the entire infrastructure suffered decay and dilapidation. Despite the terrible shape this hospital is in, Mbieri people have continued to seek medical help there. However, this Organization has recently taken a very keen interest in rehabilitating the hospital.

The organization has done the following –

  • The Organization has provided a power Generator to the hospital hence insuring a constant power supply
  • Pre-existing borehole in the hospital has been re-furbished and three tanks of 1000 gallons of water each have been installed.
  • A ten feet wall is being erected in the hospital. This wall is two thirds completed and the remainder will be completed as soon as funding is available.
  • Most of the hospital wards have been re-furbished and painted with new iron doors and mosquito nets installed. For the first times in many years, patients are being admitted in the hospital due to the partial renovation of the wards.

There is still so much left to be done for this hospital to be considered a modern hospital:

  • The walls need to be completed for security purposes.
  • The administrative building needs to be renovated as soon as possible. This administrative building houses the doctors offices, the examination rooms, nurses’ office and patients’ waiting area. The floors of this building are riddled with fleas and other insects. All the doors need to be replaced with iron doors and all the windows need to be replaced.
  • Patient operating room needs to be renovated.
  • The hospital is in urgent need of residency building for both Doctors and Nurses.

There is still so much left to be done
